Worship at First Christian Church

Come as you are. Find your place. Experience God.

At First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Washington, NC, we celebrate the beauty of diverse worship styles that connect us to God and to one another. Whether you find meaning in contemporary music and coffee in hand, or in the tradition of hymns and stained glass, our worship invites you to come just as you are and encounter the sacred.

9:00 AM – Contemporary Worship (Fellowship Hall)

This service offers a relaxed, come-as-you-are atmosphere with a focus on community and connection.

  • Features music by Living Water, our in-house praise band that donates their time and talent to enrich the service
  • Worship takes place in a casual setting—jeans and coffee welcome
  • Children ages 4–7 are invited to Children’s Worship after communion, where they engage in age-appropriate prayer, storytelling, crafts, and faith-building fun
  • Nursery care is available for children newborn through age 3, led by a CPR-certified attendant
  • Coffee and light breakfast refreshments are available before and after worship

11:15 AM – Traditional Worship (Sanctuary)

This service honors the beauty and tradition of formal worship in a sacred space.

  • Includes hymns, prayer, and communion in the context of traditional liturgy
  • Features musical offerings by our Chancel Choir and, during special seasons, our Bell Choir
  • Set in our historic Sanctuary, complete with stained glass windows and pipe organ accompaniment
  • Nursery care is also available during this service

5th Sunday – Combined “Out of the Box” Worship (10:00 AM)

On months with a fifth Sunday, we come together for a single, creative worship service at 10:00 AM.

  • These blended services incorporate different elements of worship—music, storytelling, interactive prayer, or community reflection
  • They’re designed to stretch us spiritually and remind us that God is not confined to any one style or format

At First Christian Church, we recognize that different people connect with God in different ways. That’s why we offer both contemporary and traditional expressions of worship—each grounded in communion, prayer, scripture, and love.
