Nurturing Faith from the Nursery to Young Adulthood

At First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Washington, NC, we believe that children and youth are not just the future of the church—they are a vital part of our church right now. Through age-appropriate worship, creative learning, and opportunities to serve, we aim to help young people discover how deeply they are loved by God and how they can live out that love in the world.

Nursery (Newborn – Age 3)

Our nursery provides a safe, loving, and developmentally appropriate space for our youngest children. Staffed by a CPR-certified attendant, the nursery is open during our 9:00 AM worship service and gives parents the peace of mind they need to fully participate in worship while their little ones are cared for.

Children’s Worship (Ages 4–7)

Every Sunday during the 9:00 AM worship service, children ages 4–7 are invited to leave the sanctuary after communion for a special time of prayer, storytelling, and creative activity.

  • Lessons follow the Revised Common Lectionary, just like in “big church”
  • Each week includes a hands-on craft or art project that helps children explore the Bible story in fun and meaningful ways
  • Children are guided by a lead teacher and a team of volunteers who love nurturing growing faith

Youth Group (Middle & High School Students)

Our combined Middle and High School Youth Group meets during the 9:00 AM worship service on the first Sunday of every month.

  • These gatherings focus on faith, fellowship, and service
  • Youth take part in mission projects, community engagement, and shared learning
  • They also lead worship once a year for Youth Sunday and help serve during Fifth Sunday services through communion, prayer, and more

Art Camp (Rising K–5th Grade)

Our annual Art Camp is one of the highlights of the summer! Held for four evenings in mid-June, this creative, faith-based program:

  • Pairs Bible stories with diverse art forms and genres
  • Encourages hands-on learning and creative expression
  • Includes dinner, storytelling, art stations, and fellowship
  • Is open to children rising into Kindergarten through 5th grade
  • Involves middle and high school youth as volunteers, many of whom can count their hours toward community service

We’re committed to creating safe, welcoming, and joyful spaces for children and youth to grow in their faith, ask big questions, and experience the love of Christ through community.
Come grow with us!
