Gillian Pollock
Lead Minister

Gillian L. Pollock serves as the Lead Minister of First Christian Church in Washington, NC, bringing over two decades of experience in faith formation, pastoral care, and community leadership. Rooted in a progressive Christian perspective, she seeks to cultivate a church culture of thoughtful inquiry, authentic connection, and compassionate service. Her call to ministry began in her youth and has grown through years of teaching, preaching, and walking alongside others in all seasons of life. With a background in both Episcopal and Disciples of Christ traditions, Gillian brings a deep love of scripture, a commitment to inclusive ministry, and a heart for helping others explore their own sacred stories. She believes the church is most alive when it nurtures hope, honors questions, and embodies God’s grace in the world.

Dr. Beth Clark
Music Director and Organist

Dr. Beth Clark serves as the Music Director at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Washington, where she has led our music ministry for over 16 years. A gifted organist, pianist, and conductor, Beth brings depth, passion, and spiritual sensitivity to every aspect of our worship. She directs the chancel choir, bell choir, and praise band, thoughtfully weaving together traditional and contemporary elements to create a holistic and meaningful worship experience. With a doctorate in piano pedagogy and a lifetime of musical experience—beginning in childhood and in church music since the age of 19—her artistry and leadership are a vital part of our community. Each Sunday, her music not only lifts our spirits but deepens our connection to the lectionary and the sacred message of the day.

Rev. Annell George-McLawhorn
Pastoral Care Minister

Rev. Annell George-McLawhorn is the newest member of the ministerial staff at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Washington, where she serves part-time as our Pastoral Care Minister and mentor to the Lead Minister. Originally joining us as our interim minister during a season of transition, Rev. Annell helped guide the congregation with wisdom and grace, preparing the way for our current leadership. With over 40 years of experience in ministry across congregational, regional, and denominational levels of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), she brings a deep well of knowledge and spiritual care. She also serves as the Disaster Relief Coordinator for the state of North Carolina. Passionate about creation care and the richness of the Hebrew Scriptures, Annell leads Bible studies, book groups, and pastoral care gatherings. Twice a month, she also helps lead worship, offering her presence, preaching, and pastoral wisdom to our Sunday morning services.

Dottie Cutler
Financial Administrator

Dottie Cutler serves as the Church and Financial Administrator at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Washington, bringing over 27 years of faithful service to our congregation. A steady and trusted presence, Dottie is the glue that holds the day-to-day life of the church together. She oversees all financial operations, manages the church property, coordinates on-site events, and keeps our calendar running smoothly. Beyond her official responsibilities, Dottie is a compassionate and dependable presence for staff, members, and visitors alike—often the first smile you see when you walk through the doors and the reassuring voice that keeps everything on track behind the scenes. Her commitment, care, and deep knowledge of church life make her an invaluable part of our ministry team.

Hannah Kirven

Hannah Kirven serves as our Administrative Assistant at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Washington, working one day a week to support the heart of our church’s communication and worship life. With creativity and care, she prepares our weekly bulletins, monthly newsletters, and a wide range of printed materials that keep the congregation informed and connected. Whether it’s crafting announcements, formatting worship guides, or helping prepare for special services, Hannah brings a thoughtful presence and attention to detail that makes a big impact in a small amount of time.

Loriann Bishop
Nursery Attendant, CPR certified
Custodian

Loriann Bishop serves as both our Nursery Attendant and Church Custodian at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Washington. CPR and First Aid certified, Loriann creates a safe, nurturing, and welcoming environment for our youngest children during worship and special events. Her calm presence and gentle care offer peace of mind to parents and joy to little ones. In addition to her work in the nursery, Loriann faithfully maintains the cleanliness and readiness of our church facilities, ensuring that our sacred spaces are welcoming and well-cared for throughout the week.
